Breaker Rotation Service for Marine customers

Student group
- The assignment will be carried out by a student group with 2-4 students
Focus
- Big Cruise customers has several ships which are almost unique to each other what comes to equipment installed base. ABB Marine Services is actively looking new service solutions to support their customers finding cost efficient ways to take care of customers’ assets as a part of preventive maintenance program. This assignment should especially focus on service productization and find optimal business model, so that service would be attractive to Cruise operator and profitable for ABB Marine. Principle idea exists, but deeper analysis and finding optimal scope is still missing.
Research methods
- Current idea of the service will be presented by ABB and all existing material handover to student group.
- Students will generate a sales material for the service, as well as supporting material including cost calculation model and show the most optimum method to run the service.
- Findings to be documented and presented to ABB Global Marine Services team
Rough schedule
- The course will start with an introductory lecture on week 4 (end of January 2014)
- After the first meeting(s) with the Company (January 2014), the students will develop a research plan that has to get acceptance from the company as well as from the course supervisor
- Research plan will act as the key communication device, ensuring that the student group, the instructor from the company, and the supervisor from the course will share a common understanding of what the assignment will consist of
- The students will also hand in a preliminary version of the assignment report on week 14, to enable early evaluation of the work and possible corrections to the path chosen
